Job Description
Job Summary
The Librarian is responsible for managing the library's resources, services, and operations to support teaching, learning, research, and personal development. The Librarian ensures that library materials are organized, accessible, and up-to-date while promoting information literacy and fostering a culture of reading and research among students, faculty, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the daily operations of the library.
Organize, classify, catalog, and maintain books, journals, periodicals, and digital resources.
Assist students, faculty, and staff in locating and accessing library materials.
Maintain an accurate inventory of all library resources.
Acquire new books, journals, and electronic resources based on institutional needs.
Develop and implement library policies, procedures, and regulations.
Promote reading, research, and information literacy through orientation sessions and library programs.
Manage library circulation services, including issuing, renewing, and receiving returned materials.
Monitor overdue materials and ensure timely recovery of borrowed items.
Maintain library records, databases, and cataloguing systems.
Supervise library assistants and student volunteers where applicable.
Ensure the library environment is clean, safe, quiet, and conducive to learning.
Prepare periodic reports on library usage, acquisitions, and resource utilization.
Collaborate with academic departments to ensure adequate learning resources are available.
Stay informed about developments in library science, digital information management, and educational technologies.
Perform any other duties assigned by the institution's management.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, Information Studies, Library Management, or a related field. A Master's degree is an added advantage.
Professional certification or membership with a recognized library association is desirable.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a library or information management environment (experience requirements may vary depending on the institution).
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of library cataloguing and classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal Classification).
Familiarity with Library Management Systems (LMS) and digital library platforms.
Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.

Requirements & Qualifications
Educational Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Science, Information Studies, Information Management, Library Management, or a related field from a recognized institution.
A Master's Degree in Library and Information Science or related discipline will be an added advantage.
Professional Requirements
Membership in a recognized professional library association is desirable.
Knowledge of library cataloguing and classification systems such as Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC).
Familiarity with Library Management Systems (LMS) and digital library technologies.
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant working experience in a library, educational institution, research center, or related environment.
Experience in managing electronic and physical library resources is an advantage.

Reporting Line
The Librarian shall report directly to the Principal, Academic Dean, Registrar, or any officer designated by the institution.
Conditions of Service
Appointment shall be subject to the institution's terms and conditions of service.
